Effects of residual (or internal) stress on ferroelectric domain wall motion in tetragonal lead titanate

چکیده
The effect of temperature on grinding-induced texture in tetragonal lead titanate (PT) has been investigated as a function of the magnitude of loading applied to the sample surface during grinding, using in situ x-ray diffraction (XRD) with an area detector. Compared to the ground PT under lower loading conditions (5 N), the ground PT under higher loading conditions (40 N) retains strong ferroelastic texture near the Curie temperature (T C) around 350 °C and undergoes smaller changes in lattice parameter or tetragonality versus temperature during in situ thermal cycling between room temperature and approximately 100 °C above the T C. Inhibited depoling of ground PT materials investigated by in situ texture measurements demonstrates the effects of residual stresses.

Barium titanate as a ferroelectric and piezoelectric ceramics
Barium titanate is a member of a large family of compounds with the general formula ABO3 called perovskites, as the crystal size of barium titanate increases and at critical crystalline size crystal structure of barium titanate transformed from cubic to tetragonal. Transformation of crystal structure is also take place at Curi temperature. Cubic structure show paramagenatic behavior while tetra...

We present a first-principles study of 180° ferroelectric domain walls in tetragonal barium titanate. The theory is based on an effective Hamiltonian that has previously been determined from first-principles ultrasoftpseudopotential calculations. Statistical properties are investigated using Monte Carlo simulations. We compute the domain-wall energy, free energy, and thickness, analyze the beha...
متن کاملMultiferroic domain dynamics in strained strontium titanate.
Multiferroicity can be induced in strontium titanate by applying biaxial strain. Using optical second harmonic generation, we report a transition from 4/mmm to the ferroelectric mm2 phase, followed by a transition to a ferroelastic-ferroelectric mm2 phase in a strontium titanate thin film. Piezoelectric force microscopy is used to study ferroelectric domain switching. Second harmonic generation...

متن کاملIntrinsic and Extrinsic Size Effects
The processing, electromechanical properties, and microstructure of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramics over the grain-size range of 0.1–10 μm were studied. Using measurements over a large temperature range (15–600 K), the relative role of extrinsic contribution (i.e., domain-wall motion) was deduced to be influenced strongly by the grain size, particularly for donor-doped PZT. Analytical tr...
